Macnab Instruction

It took awhile but I’ve posted all of the text from Iain Macnab’s book called The Student’s Book of Wood-Engraving published in 1938.

I’ve included some wood engraving illustrations found in the book as well.

Scottish artist Ian Macnab was the founder and principal of the famous Grosvenor School of Modern Art and was best known for his highly accomplished wood engravings and clean style. Most notably are his engravings of warm mediterranean landscapes.

  1. Thanks so much for posting this. I have several how-to books on wood engraving but always find something new in each one I read. This is a wonderful service for those without access to libraries or all-inclusive bookstores.

  2. Caryl,

Thanks for taking the time to visit and comment. It’s good to know that other engravers find value in these old texts. And you are correct in saying that there’s always something new to discover. As time permits, I’ll be adding more.

  3. HELLO JOHN! IT IS JUNE 30, 2011 AND TOMORROW I AM SUBMITTING AN ORIGINAL IAIN MACNAB WOODBLOCK PRINT ENTITLED “CORSICAN LANDSCAPE” ON EBAY. IT IS, OF COURSE, IDENTICAL TO THE ONE ON YOUR SITE. IT IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION, IS NUMBER 7 OF 40 AND IS SIGNED IN PENCIL BY MR. MACNAB. I THOUGHT I WOULD EMAIL YOU IN THE EVENT YOU ARE INTERESTED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR IAIN MACNAB INFORMATION! SUSAN
