Bear Berries

TITLE: Bear Berries
ARTIST: John Steins
MEDIUM: Wood Engraving
IMAGE SIZE: 3 x 3 in
PAPER SIZE: 7 x 8 in
PAPER: Japanese Goyu
OTHER MARKS: signed, titled in pencil

Bear berries are a fruit found on the arctic and sub-arctic tundra floor. Maybe they are called that because bears feed on them, which I am sure they do. Unfortunately, the screen image here cannot do the print’s fine lines and details justice. I did manage to give this engraving a sense of depth as if to reach down through the moss to get the berries.
