I’m intrigued by those prints of the cross-sections where the artist inks up the end of a cut log and burnishes it onto paper. Revealing the annular rings of the tree in great detail. Something about concentric circle patterns many of us find satisfying to look at.
In my travels, I took a macro photo of a knot in a piece of house siding and translated it into a wood engraving as a kind of the tip of the hat to those guys who pull prints directly from cutoff log ends.
I didn’t want to slavishly follow every line, nook, and cranny but try and let the burin do as much of the talking as possible.
