Description

A woodcut I made after the first or second frigid winter in our little log cabin in the Yukon. Here the subject reaches towards the returning spring sun. A powerful statement to be sure, after emerging from long months of relative darkness. Shaking off the daylight deprivation like a bear’s first long stretch coming out of the den. With this print, I hoped to channel other artists I admired, such as Antonio Frasconi. The amazing Uruguayan – American printmaker of the sixties and seventies. My real art hero; my dad, had reservations about this design. It reminded him too much of Soviet-themed propaganda posters. I can definitely see what he meant.
