Here’s a short video I posted on Instagram (@greentreepress) awhile ago of a woodcut I made earlier in the year.
I’m showing how I hand burnish a woodblock print onto Japanese Washi paper. Not sure if I would want to pull all 67 this way. For the actual run I have a setup on my etching press for printing relief blocks.
It was included in my solo show that opened in May, 2017 at the Arts Underground Gallery in Whitehorse, Yukon.
Much of the art I exhibited was digital media along with some video animations. Of course I have an insatiable hunger for getting my hands on some actual wood block prints using gouges and other implements. There’s something intrinsically satisfying about the whole procedure. And since I’m process orientated it is what I really want to do.
Of all the pieces in the show, this one went right away to an eager collector, which surprised me. Who would want my mug hanging on their wall? Go figure.
